Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a condition that can occur after a stem cell using donor cells (an allogenic transplant). This presentation describes how GVHD can affect the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and liver.
Problems with sleeping can exacerbate the fatigue and depression that often accompanies a stem cell transplant. This presentation reviews many sleep issues like insomnia that can complicate recovery after transplant, and describes effective remedies for these problems.
Graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD) is a common challenge for patients who undergo a stem cell transplant using cells from a donor (an allogeneic transplant). It can be mild, moderate or severe. This presentation reviews the types of GVHD, the organs most often affected, common symptoms, and traditional as well as newer therapies for treating GVHD.
Autologous stem cell transplants are a treatment option primarily for patients with multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. High-dose chemotherapy is part of the treatment and can destroy cancer cells as well as healthy blood cells. Although side effects do occur after an autologous stem cell transplant, most patients can expect a return to normal, healthy life after transplant.
Long-term health consequences of stem cell transplant using donor cells (an allogeneic transplant) are very real, although they affect a minority of patients and can often be treated effectively. This presentation reviews the most common problems following an allogeneic transplant and the therapies available to treat them.
The way we think and process information can change after transplant, at least in the short-term time. Called cognitive problems, paying attention, concentrating, remembering things and learning new skills can be difficult. This presentation discusses the factors that can cause cognitive problems and strategies to manage them.
